OUR AIM IS TO SERVE OUR PARISHES AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR PROJECT WORK
Mothers’ Union is a network of over 4 million members in 83 countries, serving Christ in their own community and working at grass roots level, there are hundreds of projects that meet local needs at home and worldwide.
Often we reach out by working individually but sometimes we need to establish a structured project.
We currently offer support in hospitals with emergency toilet bags, 'crosses in your pocket' and knitted items for the Maternity Unit, community centres or parent and toddler groups, refugees, shelters for the homeless, residential and nursing homes by providing the Fiddle Quilts and muffs, as well as being involved within our local churches; reaching out to baptism and marriage preparation. These are only a few of our projects.
There are are also projects involving a wide variety of activities around the world. Worldwide grants are available to all Dioceses outside Britain and Ireland and there are three major centrally managed programmes operating:
- Mothers’ Union Literacy, Education and Financial Programme.
- Family Life Programme.
- Worldwide Parenting Programme.
All these programmes encourage local communities to work together in order to lift people out of poverty and acquire new found skills. Through the Emergency Relief Fund help is placed within communities quickly to where it is most needed via the network of Mothers’ Union workers.
CARAVAN HOLIDAYS on the North Lancashire coast are provided by Blackburn Diocese Mothers’ Union to help families, single parents or grandparents whose life has met with adversity.
